It’s here! The world’s first Airbus A380 with Starlink WiFi
April 28, 2026
The first Airbus A380 equipped with Starlink in-flight connectivity has officially entered service with Emirates, delivering faster in-flight internet performance on the world’s largest passenger jet.
The aircraft returned to Dubai this week following installation and certification work in Newquay, UK, becoming the first A380 globally to feature the low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite system onboard.
A380 upgrades from kilobits to gigabits in the sky
Emirates was among the earliest airlines to offer onboard WiFi, but its early systems delivered less than 1 Mbps across the entire aircraft.
With three antennas installed on each A380, the new Starlink connection can deliver more than 2 Gbps of total bandwidth across the cabin. That significant increase in capacity means that hundreds of passengers can stream, game, browse and work remotely at speeds the airline says can rival home internet speeds.

The installation was particularly challenging on the A380, where the double-deck layout and high passenger count pose unique connectivity challenges. Emirates says it has added extra wireless access points and a third antenna, as well as optimised inter-deck integration to ensure passengers enjoy consistent performance across both levels of the aircraft.
Free WiFi for every passenger and more connections coming
Emirates will offer the Starlink service free of charge in all classes. Passengers can connect on their personal electronic devices with an easy sign-up and use the service from gate to gate.

The airline also plans to expand the faster in-flight connectivity offering to include live TV streaming—first to passengers’ personal devices, and later integrated into seatback screens.
Emirates Starlink fleet rollout gathers pace
The A380 installation is part of a Starlink rollout already underway across the Emirates fleet.
The airline has equipped 25 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with Starlink so far, with more than 650,000 passengers having already used the service.

Installations on additional A380s will accelerate through 2026, with future work to be completed at Emirates’ Engineering facilities in Dubai.
Part of an ongoing Emirates investment in the passenger experience
The connectivity upgrade sits alongside Emirates’ massive fleet retrofit programme, one of the aviation industry’s largest of its kind.
The airline reports that 93 of its aircraft have now been refurbished, introducing new premium economy cabins, upgraded business class seats, refreshed first class suites, and enhanced interiors across all cabins.
The airline also upgraded its in-flight entertainment system and now offers more than 6,500 channels of content.
LEO connectivity takes off
The arrival of Starlink on the Emirates A380 is a significant milestone for LEO satellite connectivity in commercial aviation. Low-Earth-orbit constellations offer lower latency and higher bandwidth, which can rival what passengers have become accustomed to at home.

Many airlines and their customers are finding the appeal attractive, with LEO reshaping passenger expectations on in-flight WiFi performance.
While Starlink currently holds a significant market lead, other LEO constellations, including Amazon Kuiper and Eutelsat’s OneWeb, are also addressing demand.
As more airlines adopt LEO connectivity, the gap between ground and in-flight internet is narrowing, turning WiFi into a core part of the passenger experience.
