UK-based Avooma Airlines has signed a collaboration agreement with US aircraft manufacturer The AirCraft Company as it looks to advance the decarbonisation of regional aviation.

The partnership will focus on exploring the potential use of the Pangea family of hybrid-electric aircraft, with a decision on future fleet investments expected later this year.

The Pangea aircraft use a combination of electric-first and hybrid-on-demand technology, allowing them to fly up to 400km on battery power alone and up to 800km using a range extender compatible with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and hydrogen.

This range could enable Avooma to operate carbon-free flights across the UK, Ireland, and key European business hubs.

Avooma also plans to integrate AI-driven tools to enhance the customer experience and introduce hybrid-electric ground vehicles to further cut emissions.

As part of the agreement, industry experts from both companies will join each other’s advisory boards to help shape the future of sustainable regional aviation.

Mario Asselin, co-CEO of The AirCraft Company said that the deal with Avooma “will help to enhance regional travel in the UK and the Republic of Ireland for years to come, and set a strong example for other operators to follow.”

Jon Davies, chief vision officer of Avooma Airlines, added: “When establishing Avooma, we pledged to make environmental sustainability one of the three core principles of our business (People, Places & the Planet).

“I’m incredibly excited to announce this agreement with The AirCraft Company as it will act as a catalyst for change within our sector. Regional aviation is vital for local communities, and it’s crucial that we take steps like this to ensure our long-term viability.”
