Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) technology provider LanzaJet has received a $20 million investment from airport designer and operator Grope ADP, enabling the pioneering fuel producer to “continue building its capability and capacity to deploy its sustainable aviation fuels process technology globally”.
In January 2024, LanzaJet opened the world’s first commercial-scale ethanol-to-SAF plant in the United States, where it will employ its proprietary technology to manufacture 10 million gallons of SAF and renewable diesel a year. However, with every drop of the next decade’s worth of production already accounted for in offtake agreements, further expansion is needed.
“With this significant contribution from Groupe ADP – a first-of-its-kind in the industry, we will expand LanzaJet’s technology deployment and global growth,” highlighted Jimmy Samartzis, chief executive officer of LanzaJet. “Together, we will work towards expanding Sustainable Aviation Fuel production and logistics into airports to support airlines and Groupe ADP customers worldwide as the industry works collectively to collaborate”.
CEO of Groupe ADP Augustin de Romanet added: “As the world’s leading airport operator, we wanted to go further and act at source by supporting the production of sustainable aviation fuel, investing directly in LanzaJet, an innovative company able to deploy its technology responsibly around the world”. The investment into LanzaJet was made through Group ADP’s subsidiary, ADP International.
Groupe ADP previously became the first European airport operator to offer a permanent dual SAF offer at Paris Le Bourget airport, following which it also became the first industry player to invest in a fund dedicated to SAF development (the United Airlines Ventures Sustainable Flight Fund).
