Japan Airlines selects GEnx-1B engines for new 787-9 Dreamliners

Building on Japan Airlines’ agreement with Boeing for up to 20 787-9 Dreamliners, the Japanese flag carrier has selected GE Aerospace’s GEnx-1B engines to power the aircraft.
The powerplant – which is used in two out of every three 787s in service – will now be employed on JAL’s up to 20 new aircraft. “As a launch airline for GEnx powered 787 Dreamliners, we are delighted at introducing additional 787s,” commented Yukio Nakagawa, executive officer and senior vice president of procurement for Japan Airlines. “The GEnx engine is essential to the expansion of our 787 Dreamliner fleet”.
Japan Airlines and its subsidiary currents operates a fleet of 53 787s powered by the GEnx engine, which reached three million engine flight hours earlier this year. With the worldwide GEnx engine family possessing more than 56 million flight hours since its entry into service in 2011, “we’re honoured Japan Airlines continues to place their trust in our products and services with this new order,” added Russell Stokes, president and CEO, commercial engines and services, GE Aerospace.
