Geven New Comoda - Materia Pack seating for Icelandair

Having recently taken delivery of its first Airbus A321LR, Icelandair has also marked a milestone for Italian aircraft seating company, Geven, as the launch customer of the latter’s New Comoda – Materia Pack for business class and Elemento for its economy cabin.

Geven’s collaboration with Icelandair, which took delivery of its first Airbus A321LR In December last year, also marks the seating manufacturer’s debut of Elemento in a narrow-body aircraft. However, both seating options which have been designed for long-haul are expected to be rolled out on A330 and A350 fleets as well.

The airline’s A321LR is configured with 187 seats in a two-class layout. In addition to the new seating, the aircraft’s ‘Airspace’ cabin features the latest lighting system and extra large bins, providing 60% more stowage space compared to previous generation aircraft.

Complexities of cabin design

“Designing a new cabin is a complex and collaborative process,” said Helga Huld Bjarnadóttir, director customer experience at Icelandair. She added the process relies on the “expertise of multiple partners and great collaboration. For the whole seating and in-flight entertainment design, it was a pleasure to witness the innovative solutions and dedicated efforts from Geven and our shared focus on delivering an outstanding experience for passengers.”

Another standout feature of the Geven seating is the first-ever integration with Panasonic Astrova on Geven seats in both cabins. In business class, Icelandair passengers will benefit from the custom redesign of the New Comoda – Materia Pack, which provides advanced features such as cradle functionality, a spacious central console and design elements that provide increased luxury and privacy, while reflecting the airline’s brand identity. Seats are also equipped with 16-inch Astrova monitors.

In economy the lightweight and ergonomic Elemento seat is engineered to enhance comfort and features a 13.3-inch OLED screen.

Noting that the partnership with Icelandair marks a significant achievement for Geven, managing director, Alberto Veneruso, concluded that with the new seating solutions also set to debut on the A330 and A350 fleets  in due course Geven is “excited to see these solutions shaping the future of long-haul travel.”
