European helicopter operator Avincis is to collaborate on the development of advanced air mobility opportunities throughout Europe with partner Airbus, with a particular focus on the future of emergency air services.

Through a newly signed agreement, both parties will work on defining the concept of operations for eVTOLs in Europe and beyond, collaborating to “define missile profiles for eVTOL operations in Europe and other target regions”. Balkiz Sharihan, head of urban air mobility at Airbus, cited Avincis’ established operational network as “a valuable tool to collectively explore the mission potential of the CityAirbus NextGen [eVTOL];” adding that the collaboration can contribute to “missions that save lives and protect communities”.

Avincis currently operates more than 220 rotary-wing aircraft across Europe, Mozambique and Chile. “eVTOLs will play an important role in our long-term fleet strategy as these technologies continue to evolve to give us further reach and capability in the field,” elaborated John Boag, CEO of Avincis. “We are excited to be working with [the Airbus] team in understanding how we can harness the latest technology to bring more sustainable solutions to emergency services globally”.

The fully electric CityAirbus NextGen prototype is currently undergoing testing at Airbus’ advanced air mobility test centre in Donauwörth, Germany before its inaugural flight later this year.
