Air India introduces A350-900 on Delhi to Newark route
January 2, 2025
Following the introduction of Air India’s A350 service between Delhi-New York, India’s flag-carrying airline has now also introduced its flagship A350-900 aircraft on non-stop flights between Delhi and Newark’s Liberty International Airport.
The introduction of the A350 means all non-stop flights between India’s capital and the New York region will be served by the Airbus aircraft offering its all-new interiors, including private suites in business class and a premium economy cabin. The aircraft’s business class cabin features 28 private suites in a 1-2-1 configuration, each accommodating a fully flat bed. Air India is the only non-stop carrier between the US and India to offer private suites in business class.
To celebrate the Delhi-Newark launch, the airline’s cabin crew embarked on a cinematic journey to recreate iconic New York City moments. Donning their new Manish Malhotra-designed uniforms, the crew recreated scenes such as the ‘lunch atop a skyscraper’ photo from 1932. The original photograph showed ironworkers enjoying a casual lunch break on a towering skyscraper beam during the construction of 30 Rockefeller Plaza.
Other images include the crew standing on the grand staircase of the Metropolitan Museum of Art which has provided the backdrop for various popular drama series. The crew also strolled the busy sidewalks under the bright neon lights of Times Square, which has been featured in numerous Bollywood and Hollywood movies.
First Indian airline to introduce Wi-Fi on domestic routes
The start of 2025 has also seen Air India become the first Indian carrier to roll out Wi-Fi internet connectivity services on board domestic flights. Internet connectivity has been introduced on the carrier’s flights operated by A350, B787-9 and select A321neo aircraft, for domestic as well as international routes.
“Connectivity is now an integral part of modern travel. For some, it is about the convenience and comfort of real-time sharing, while for others, it is about greater productivity and efficiency. Whatever be one’s purpose, we are confident that our guests will appreciate having the option of connecting to the web and enjoy the new Air India experience on board these aircraft,” said Rajesh Dogra, chief customer experience officer, Air India.
