The V2500 engine programme has achieved a significant milestone, surpassing 300 million flight hours in service, IAE International Aero Engines AG announced this week.

The company said the figure reflects the reliability of the engine, which powers a mix of commercial and military aircraft.

IAE, a multinational engine consortium made up of Pratt & Whitney, Pratt & Whitney Aero Engines International GmbH, Japanese Aero Engines Corporation and MTU Aero Engines AG, has supplied around 2,800 V2500 engines to over 150 operators worldwide.

The engine is used on the Airbus A320ceo family – including freighter conversions such as the A321F – as well as on the Embraer C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft.

“The V2500 is a mainstay of the industry, and this latest milestone of 300 million flight hours is evidence of the engine’s legacy of reliability and performance,” said Kelly Horan, president, IAE.

“With an average age of 15 years, the V2500 engine is in the prime of its life – and we continue to offer customized solutions to meet our customers’ needs.”

A high-time V2500 recently came out of service after more than 43,000 operating hours since it was first installed in April 2013.

A global support network of 13 facilities, including eight run by IAE consortium members, provides MRO coverage.

IAE marked 40 years of operation in 2023 and conducted successful testing of the V2500 using 100% synthetic aviation fuel in 2024.
