Thales opens MRO facility in India

Strategically located in Gurugram close to Delhi Airport, Thales has opened a new Avionics MRO facility providing comprehensive avionics maintenance and repair services for airlines including Air India and IndiGo.

The unveiling of the new facility earlier in March follows the official certification of the centre by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in December 2024 and reinforces Thales’ support for the country’s thriving aviation sector and will further strengthen its partnerships with Indian airlines.

India’s aviation sector is one of the fastest-growing in the world, driven by rising passenger demand, government initiatives like UDAN (the regional connectivity scheme) and significant investments in infrastructure. Carriers including IndiGo, Air India and Vistara are expanding their fleets. The MRO sector is also growing as stakeholders look to move away from their dependence on foreign facilities.

Thomas Got, VP Aviation Global Services at Thales explained, “India’s MRO industry is set for significant growth, becoming a key region for airlines.” He added that Thales new MRO facility highlights the company’s “localisation efforts to bring our technological and avionics repair expertise closer to airline customers.”

The Gurugram centre, he continued is “backed by the power of a global support and services organisation and aligns with Thales’ strategy to expand its presence in India.”

He was joined by Shri Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Honourable Minister of Civil Aviation, Government of India, who underlined he was “deeply impressed by the meticulous planning and innovation that have gone into creating the centre.”

The facility, he said, “exemplifies our collective commitment to building a self-reliant India and a self-reliant aviation ecosystem… Thales stands out as a shining example of Indo-French collaboration. We must together leverage India’s vast talent pool and facilitate India’s rapidly growing aviation market.”
