Tenerife airport reopens after bizjet incident
Tenerife South Airport has resumed operations following a disruption caused by a private jet blocking its sole runway on the evening of January 2.
The incident rendered the airport inoperative for approximately two hours, leading to significant flight diversions and delays.
Air traffic controllers reported that several flights were redirected to nearby Canary Island airports, including Gran Canaria, Tenerife North, and Fuerteventura.
In total, 11 flights were diverted to Gran Canaria, five to Tenerife North—despite its already saturated capacity—and one to Fuerteventura.
The runway was cleared and became operational again at 20:40 local time.
While normal flight schedules have resumed, passengers are advised to check with their airlines for any residual delays or changes resulting from the earlier disruption.
