Robinson reveals upgraded R66 NxG

March 17, 2025

The Robinson Helicopter Company has launched a significant upgrade for its five-seat single-turboshaft R66, with the R66 NxG featuring an all-glass cockpit and autopilot system.
Coinciding with the 15th anniversary of the original R66, which began production in 2010, the “refreshed inside and out” NxG (next-generation) aircraft “offers new technology and standard safety equipment, including an impact resistant windshield and a two-axis autopilot standard,” revealed Robinson. These are complemented with other features both aesthetic and functional.
Within the cockpit, the substitution of traditional round gauges for advanced digital displays increases pilot situational awareness, with engine and system instruments visualised on the Garmin TXi display. Additionally, the introduction of Garmin’s standard two-axis autopilot (an industry first for a light helicopter) augments safety, as does a new polycarbonate impact-resistant windshield.
“The R66 NxG also includes updated materials and new paint schemes while remaining mission-capable, making the R66 more premium and accessible,” continued Robinson. This includes three customisable trim levels, ranging from the entry-level ‘Southwood’, while the mid-level ‘Palo Verde’ offers optional upgraded avionics, premium leather interior covers and an all-new exterior paint scheme.
The ‘Riviera’, meanwhile, boasts advanced Garmin avionics, three-axis autopilot and an exclusive interior trim, alongside a light wood flooring – a first for a Robinson helicopter. A limited amount of this configuration will be built, with the Riviera only available to order over the next year. While Robinson Helicopter Company president and CEO David Smith “recognises the diverse needs of [Robinson’s] customers” (with many flying missions such as animal management, agricultural work and public safety), “we also serve many customers who appreciate elevated design,” he added.
“This latest advancement sets a new standard for our company and the industry. We are committed to providing all our customers – whether they prioritize rugged performance for demanding work or unparalleled comfort for personal use – with both performance and safety,” concluded Smith.
