LOT Polish Airlines has expanded its collaboration with Lufthansa Technik by appointing the company to oversee maintenance services for its latest-generation LEAP-1B engines, which power its Boeing 737 MAX fleet.

Building on a successful collaboration with Lufthansa Technik for its older-generation CFM engines and various MRO services, LOT’s head of powerplant, Maciej Maciejewicz, said, “We are now confident to also entrust our latest-generation CFM engines to their expertise, part of which is being delivered right here in Poland.”

The first LEAP-1B engine under the new agreement was inducted near Wroclaw at XEOS, marking a milestone as Lufthansa Technik’s first LEAP engine induction as part of its joint venture with GE Aerospace.

David Sturz, corporate sales executive at Lufthansa Technik, underlined that the agreement with LOT reflects the company’s “extensive LEAP capabilities.” He also noted, “Having recently gained certification for LEAP engines, XEOS now ideally complements our LEAP engine shop in Hamburg and further supports our successful ramp-up for this important engine type.”

This agreement builds on an existing partnership between the two companies, which began in April 2023 when Lufthansa Technik Malta completed the first C-check on a LOT Boeing 787. In May, the two companies extended the collaboration with a contract for CFM56-7B engine services for LOT’s Boeing 737NG fleet, with these services currently underway  in Hamburg. The newly added LEAP engine services in Wroclaw now expands this partnership further.
