Building on an existing partnership, technology firm EDGE has agreed a joint venture (JV) with technology and defence systems company Indra Sistemas (Indra) to design and manufacture radar systems in Abu Dhabi.

The JV, named PULSE, aims to enhance local capabilities for the development and production of advanced radar systems leveraging a robust pipeline of orders from both existing and new customers across the globe.

As part of the agreement, two companies will be established. The first will focus on the development, design, integration, sales and maintenance of radars. Indra will hold a majority stake of 50.01% with EDGE owning the remaining 49.99%. The second company will specialise in radar manufacturing and will operate a new factory in Abu Dhabi. EDGE will own a majority stake of 50.01% while Indra will hold 49.99%.

Faisal Al Bannai, chairman of EDGE described the establishment of PULSE as a “transformative milestone in advancing the global defence landscape by delivering state-of-the-art radar systems.”

He also noted that the JV addresses “critical capability gaps, showcasing the power of innovation and technology transfer to enhance operational excellence and global security.”

The aim of the new JV is to increase radar production capacity and sales with PULSE focused on engineering, developing, manufacturing and maintaining existing and future radar systems and their components, as well as marketing them in high-potential markets. While the company is initially planning to employ highly specialised and experienced Indra professionals and Emirati employees it will look to train and develop local talent, providing the UAE with new radar capabilities.

Marc Murtra, Indra’s chairman added that in addition to providing next generation radar systems, the agreement will “include advanced research infrastructure, laboratories and testing facilities all based in the UAE.”

This, he said, is a vital next step in enabling Indra to expand its global footprint and develop its relationship with EDGE.
