In line with plans to accommodate record passenger growth, Türkiye’s Antalya Airport has completed phase one of a major expansion, adding over 160,000 sq.m. of terminal space.

Under a partnership between Turkish airport operator TAV Airports Holding and German operator Fraport which has operational control of the terminal and landside infrastructure through to 2051, Antalya Airport is currently undergoing a major expansion project. Phase one of the project, which saw the addition of 132,000 sq. m to the international terminal and a further 38,000 sq.m. to the domestic terminal, is now complete, with approximately €850 million invested in the project to date.

The expansion work is in line with record-breaking growth at the air transport hub, which saw over 38 million passengers in 2024, a 6.5 % increase on 2023 figures.

Noting that the expansion is the third largest construction project in Fraport’s history, the group’s CEO, Stefan Schulte, said: “The opening of the new terminal areas marks a significant step forward in reinforcing Antalya’s status as the top holiday airport in the Mediterranean… It demonstrates our capability to execute complex infrastructure developments efficiently and effectively.”

The opening of the upgraded terminal also delivers new culinary offerings through Fraport’s joint venture called Best Food for All, which has seen 29 restaurants now offering food and beverage at Antalya Airport for the first time.

The first phase has also included new taxiways, apron enhancements and a parking facility. Meanwhile, a new air traffic control is due to be complete and operational by the end of 2026.

“Antalya Airport is Türkiye’s second-busiest airport for international traffic, and this expansion will not only improve the passenger experience but also boost regional growth,” said TAV Airports CEO Serkan Kaptan. “Our partnership with Fraport and continued stakeholder collaboration will unlock the airport’s full potential.”

The airport’s expansion is part of a wider vision to transform the region beyond its appeal as a summer hotspot into a year-round tourism destination.
