Somon Air has signed an agreement with UAE-based leasing company DAE Capital for the acquisition of two new Boeing 737 MAX-8 aircraft, set to join the airline’s fleet in 2026.

This move is expected to bolster Somon Air’s standing as Tajikistan’s leading airline.

The deal was finalised in Dushanbe, where Somon Air CEO Abdulkosim Valiev and DAE Capital President David Houlihan signed the agreement at the airline’s headquarters.

The addition of these modern aircraft aligns with Somon Air’s stated commitment to expanding and modernising its fleet.

Founded in 2008, Somon Air is a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and currently operates a fleet of Boeing 737-800 and 737-900 aircraft. The airline runs regular international flights to destinations in Germany, the UAE, Turkey, China, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iran, India, Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

“Thanks to the constant support and attention of the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, respected Emomali Rahmon, the civil aviation sector of Tajikistan is developing every year,” said Abdulkosim Valiev, CEO of Somon Air.

“The signing of this agreement is part of our long-term strategy to modernise the fleet and improve the quality of service. Boeing 737-8 aircraft are distinguished by high fuel efficiency, increased flight range and improved operational characteristics, which will allow the airline to further improve the level of comfort and safety for passengers.
