Philippine Airlines commits to up to 20 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners at Farnborough
Philippine Airlines has committed to order up to 20 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, marking what the carrier says will be the largest widebody aircraft order in its history.
Announced at the Farnborough International Airshow, the agreement covers 15 firm aircraft and purchase rights for five more. It remains subject to finalisation before being added to Boeing’s official order backlog.
The 787-10s will support Philippine Airlines’ fleet modernisation and expansion across medium- and long-haul routes, complementing its existing Boeing 777Boeing 777 fleet.
“This investment manifests our confidence in the future of Philippine Airlines and the continued growth of air travel,” said Lucio C. Tan III, president and chief operating officer of PAL Holdings.
“The Boeing 787-10 will strengthen our medium- and long-haul fleet, allowing us to provide an even better travel experience for our customers while improving operational efficiency and supporting our long-term sustainability goals.”
The agreement also comes as Philippine Airlines and Boeing mark 80 years of working together.
787-10 adds capacity for regional and long-haul growth
The 787-10 is the largest member of the Dreamliner family and is designed to carry between 300 and 375 passengers over distances of up to 7,500 nautical miles.
Its combination of capacity and lower operating costs makes it particularly suited to high-demand routes within Asia, as well as selected services to Australia, the Middle East and parts of North America.
Boeing says the composite aircraft uses around 25% less fuel than the older-generation widebodies it typically replaces.
Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said the selection represented an important step in the manufacturer’s long relationship with the airline.
“We’re grateful for PAL’s trust in Boeing, and our team looks forward to delivering advanced-technology airplanes that deepen connections across the Philippines, Asia and beyond,” she said.
Philippine Airlines currently operates 10 Boeing 777-300ERs, alongside Airbus A350 and A330 widebodies. Its first Airbus A350-1000 entered the fleet in December 2025, with additional aircraft now supporting expansion to North America.
The addition of the 787-10 would therefore give the airline another large-capacity, twin-engine aircraft for fleet renewal and network growth.
Philippine Airlines serves 29 domestic and 40 international destinations from its hubs in Manila and Cebu. The carrier has recently expanded its North American operation, including additional Los Angeles frequencies and a new nonstop route between Manila and Chicago.
