L3Harris’ divested training business becomes Acron Aviation

L3Harris’ Commercial Aviation Solutions (CAS) has officially emerged as Acron Aviation some 16 months after the training and avionics business segment was bought out by private equity firm TJC.
Located in the UK, US, Thailand and India, “Acron Aviation aims to establish itself as an unconventional, top tier, partner of choice for our customers in avionics, airline training solutions, and flight data intelligence,” wrote the company, which believes it is “ideally positioned to serve its fixed-wing and rotary customers in the commercial, business jet, military and AAM markets”.
In November 2023, L3Harris announced the signing of a definitive agreement by which private equity firm TJC would acquire the former’s CAS business, which employs around 1,450 people, for $800 million. At the time, L3Harris CEO and chair Christopher Kubasik announced the sale was “consistent with [L3Harris’] multi-year strategy to optimise [its] national security, technology-focused portfolio”.
Acron’s activities will be split across four business areas: avionics, training systems, training services and flight data intelligence. “Since our inception, we’ve been at the forefront of aviation excellence, from pioneering the first flight simulator in the 1920s to delivering top-tier avionics technology,” commented Acron Aviation CEO Alan Crawford. As we embark on this new exciting chapter, our identity will be founded on a culture of continuous innovation.”
