GetJet Airlines has secured a 40-year lease on a plot at Vilnius International Airport (VNO), where it plans to develop a cutting-edge Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility.

The long-term agreement, awarded through an auction by Lithuanian Airports, marks a significant investment in the airline’s technical capabilities and operational independence.

Inga Duglas, CEO of GetJet Airlines, confirmed that design and construction work on the facility will begin soon, with the first aircraft expected to undergo maintenance by 2028.

“Establishing our own MRO facility marks a significant step in expanding our ability to support our fleet independently, ensuring unmatched operational flexibility. Currently, we can mobilise within 1.5 hours of request confirmation and conduct over 500 ad-hoc operations annually, positioning GetJet Airlines as the ‘Task Force of Aviation.’ This investment further strengthens our self-sufficiency and enhances operational reliability for our clients,” said Duglas.

The airline will invest €10 million in the project between 2025 and 2028, creating around 50 new jobs and attracting skilled aviation professionals to support its growing operations. The facility will enable GetJet Airlines to manage aircraft maintenance in-house, reducing reliance on external providers and ensuring greater control over service quality and efficiency.

Darius Viltrakis, CEO of GetJet Aviation Holdings, highlighted the global MRO capacity constraints as a major challenge for the aviation industry. “Global MRO infrastructure is operating at full capacity, and wait times continue to rise. A 2024 Bain & Company study found that maintenance timelines for next-generation engines have increased by 150%, while older engine models require 35% more time for servicing compared to pre-pandemic levels. At the same time, airlines are forced to keep aging aircraft in service longer due to new aircraft delivery delays, further driving up maintenance demand,” said Viltrakis.

The new facility is a key component of GetJet Airlines’ broader strategy to enhance its technical capabilities in response to the increasing global demand for MRO services. “Owning our own hangar and reducing dependence on third-party MRO providers is a major competitive advantage. It allows us to maintain our fleet more effectively, improve operational flexibility, and adapt swiftly to growing industry demand,” added Viltrakis.
