Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest carrier, is seeking to tap into the continent’s growing population of ultra-high-net-worth individuals with the introduction of a dedicated VIP charter service.

The airline has added a Boeing 737-800 Business Jet to its fleet, offering a luxury travel experience tailored for Africa’s elite.

The decision marks a shift for Ethiopian Airlines as it diversifies its operations beyond traditional passenger and cargo services, positioning itself to cater to the increasing demand for premium, on-demand air travel across Africa.

With the number of millionaires on the continent expected to rise, Ethiopian Airlines is aiming to capture a lucrative share of the market.

The newly introduced aircraft can accommodate up to 32 passengers in a private setting or 19 passengers for ultra-premium business operations.

For Ethiopian Airlines, the move is not only about profitability but also about cementing its status as a full-service aviation group capable of meeting the needs of diverse market segments.

Commenting on the move, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO, Mesfin Tasew, said: “As Africa’s leading carrier, we are always looking for ways to enhance our offerings and meet the unique demands of our diverse clientele.

“With the addition of this Boeing 737-800 Business Jet, we are elevating our charter service to new heights, ensuring that our customers enjoy unparalleled luxury, convenience, and world-class service.

“This is yet another step in our commitment to fostering business and investment opportunities across Africa and beyond.”
