Aircraft manufacturing giant, Airbus, has fallen short of its 2024 target to complete “around 770” aircraft deliveries, according to Bloomberg.

Airbus was five to 10 aircraft short of its annual goal, having delivered close to 120 aircraft in December, bringing its total deliveries for the year to between 760 and 765 aircraft industry sources say.

The figures given to Bloomberg were provided by “insiders”, who cautioned that the final tally for the company may differ slightly. Airbus is yet to comment and is expected to publish final order and delivery figures for 2024 on 9 January. Delivering close to 120 aircraft in December, still marks an impressive turnaround for Airbus however, as the company has faced a year of supply chain challenges and financial setbacks.

Airbus reduced its delivery target for the year from 800 to 770 in July 2024, citing the shortage of engines and other key components. The company will however beat its rival Boeing for aircraft deliveries during 2024. According to AirInsight Group, Boeing delivered 34% fewer aircraft in 2024 than in the previous year with just over 340 planes delivered. The data also shows that Boeing produced a total of 230 narrow and widebody aircraft in 2024, 149 less than in 2023. Boeing has said that it plans to boost production this year, having resumed production across its 767 and 777/777X programmes at its Everett facility and restarting production of the MAX at its Renton assembly line in December.
