Revealed: The world’s most on-time airlines and airports in 2025
January 2, 2026
Aviation analytics firm Cirium has published its annual On-Time Performance Review, the industry benchmark for measuring airline and airport schedule reliability.
Cirium’s On-Time Performance Review combines flight data from over 600 real-time and historical sources, reflecting operational performance across airlines and markets. The methodology counts arrivals within 14 minutes and 59 seconds of schedule as on time, following industry standards.

Reliable on-time performance is critical for passenger satisfaction. It also impacts airlines’ connections, aircraft utilisation, and crew scheduling. When flights fail to arrive as scheduled, delays can cascade across the network, disrupting operations. Keeping flights on time is challenging in increasingly congested skies, where technical failures and weather can significantly disturb the day’s schedule.
As Jeremy Bowen, Cirium CEO, said of this past year’s review: “Maintaining consistent on-time performance requires sophisticated network planning, operational coordination, and the ability to recover quickly when irregularities occur. These results reflect the operational discipline that defines aviation’s top performers.”
Cirium’s global on-time airline winners for 2025
After analysing hundreds of thousands of flights worldwide, Aeromexico emerged as the global leader with a 90.02% on-time performance (OTP), narrowly outpacing Saudia and Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), which ranked second and third, respectively. It is the Mexican flag carrier’s second consecutive year atop the global rankings.

Top Global Airline Performers (2025):
- 1 — Aeromexico: 90.02% OTP
- 2 — Saudia: 86.53% OTP
- 3 — SAS (Scandinavian Airlines): 86.09% OTP
Note: OTP Percentages reflect flights arriving within 14 minutes 59 seconds of the scheduled time.
2025 most on-time regional airline winners
Cirium’s report also highlights regional leaders — carriers that excel within their operational networks:

- North America: Delta Air Lines secured its fifth straight win with 80.90% OTP.
- Europe: Iberia Express continued its regional dominance with an 88.94% OTP for the third consecutive year.
- Asia-Pacific: Philippine Airlines claimed the regional title for the first time, achieving an 83.12% OTP.
- Latin America: Copa Airlines stood out with an exceptional 90.75% OTP, its 11th win in this category—the most wins by any Latin American carrier since Cirium launched the OTP rankings in 2009.
- Middle East & Africa: Safair led with a stellar 91.06% OTP.
Cirium Platinum Award winner and most improved airline
In addition to the rankings, Cirium presented two special awards to airlines, recognising their operational excellence.
Qatar Airways was honoured with a Platinum Award for its operational consistency, achieving an OTP of 84.42% on over 198,303 flights across six continents.

Virgin Atlantic earned Cirium’s inaugural “Most Improved” award after lifting its OTP from 74.02% in 2024 to 83.45% in 2025, a 9.44-point improvement year-over-year.
Most on-time airports of 2025
Cirium also recognised airports that delivered the most punctual operations across different categories:

- Large Airport Category: Santiago Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport (SCL) — 87.04% of departures on time
- Medium Airport Category: Tocumen International Airport (PTY) — 93.34% of departures on time
- Small Airport Category: José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport (GYE) — 91.47% of departures on time
Cirium also awarded Istanbul Airport (IST) a Platinum Award in recognition of its “operational complexity, passenger impact during disruptions, and growth trajectory.”
What Cirium’s OTP rankings tell us about commercial aviation operations in 2026
Cirium’s rankings also reveal key operational trends driving the commercial aviation sector last year, which will also impact airline and airport on-time performance this year.
The narrow margins between the top international performers show that airlines are tightening their operations. This means that on-time flights are becoming more likely, barring situations outside of the airlines’ control. However, regional OTP can vary widely, with on-time arrival rates higher in some regions than in others, and achieving it at scale becomes more challenging.

For example, there is a significant 10.16 point difference between North America’s top carrier, Delta Air Lines, and the overall most on-time regional winner, Safair, and an 8.04 percentage point difference between Delta and Iberia Express in Europe. That Delta has won for the fifth consecutive the world’s year reflects strong operational consistency. Still, it must contend with a large and complex network, a central hub at the world’s busiest airport, and crowded national airspace, while providing both domestic and international services.
Cirium’s 2025 OTP Review demonstrates how airline network recovery, disruption management, and strategic hub performance can yield a competitive advantage, and hopefully, the average OTP percentage will rise industry-wide in 2026.
