The world’s best luxury airline cabins ranked: From Etihad’s Residence to Emirates’ shower spa
7 min read
From private bedrooms and double beds to onboard showers and cocktail lounges, the world’s most luxurious airline cabins are pushing premium air travel to new extremes.
A new study by AirAdvisor ranks the most extravagant first class and business class experiences available in 2026, highlighting the airline suites and luxury flight products that redefine flying.
Etihad Airways’ three-room Residence, Emirates’ onboard shower spa and SWISS’s new First Class Grand Suite are among the most extravagant luxuries available to airline passengers, according to the rankings.
The travel advisory company examined ten premium experiences that go beyond conventional First and Business Class seating, including private bedrooms, double beds, onboard lounges and exclusive airport facilities.
Etihad’s Residence topped the ranking with 98 points out of 100, followed by Emirates’ A380 Shower Spa with 91 points and the SWISS First Grand Suite with 88 points.
“Premium air travel has become an arms race. A lie-flat seat is no longer enough to stand out: airlines are now competing with bedrooms, showers, private lounges and spaces designed for couples or groups,” said Anton Radchenko, founder and CEO of AirAdvisor. “What is striking is how scarce many of these experiences remain – often limited to one aircraft type or only a handful of routes.”

1. Etihad Airways: The Residence
AIRADVISOR SCORE: 98/100
Etihad’s The Residence is effectively a private apartment aboard an Airbus A380, accommodating up to two passengers in three separate rooms.

Guests have a private living room, a bedroom with a double bed and an ensuite shower room. The experience also includes personalised ground services, including chauffeur transfers and airport assistance.
Unlike a conventional First Class suite, The Residence provides separate spaces for relaxing, sleeping and bathing, with complete privacy from the main passenger cabin.
It cleverly uses space in an often under-utilised section of the upper-deck cabin on the superjumbo, offering passengers an experience similar to flying on a private jet for a fraction of the price.
2. Emirates: A380 shower spa
AIRADVISOR SCORE: 91/100
Emirates lets First Class passengers on its A380 aircraft shower during the flight.
The aircraft has two Shower Spas at the front of the upper deck, featuring dedicated shower facilities, changing areas, vanity mirrors and heated floors.

An opportunity to shower before landing is appealing on long-haul flights, letting passengers arrive refreshed without waiting until they reach an airport lounge or hotel.
3. SWISS: First Grand Suite
AIRADVISOR SCORE: 88/100
The SWISS First Grand Suite combines adjoining First Class suites into a single private space. It is available on select Airbus A330-300 and all A350-900 aircraft.
By incorporating the area between the suites, the airline can create what it describes as a “loft aloft”, accommodating up to three passengers.

The flexible arrangement can function as a private bedroom, workspace or meeting area. It is designed for passengers travelling together who want more room and privacy than individual First Class suites offer.
4. Air France: La Première private airport suite
AIRADVISOR SCORE: 85/100
Air France’s most extravagant premium offering is not actually aboard an aircraft.
At Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport, eligible La Première passengers can reserve a private airport suite measuring approximately 45 square metres.

Each suite has a living and dining area, a double bedroom, a bathroom and an outdoor patio. Guests can also enjoy access to the airline’s La Première lounge and Sisley spa.
The private suites extend the First Class experience beyond the flight itself, providing somewhere to relax, dine or sleep during a connection.

To enjoy La Première private airport suite, you must fly on La Première. While AirAdvisor did not include this aircraft cabin in its rankings, as AGN has previously reported, it is an exceptionally comfortable first class that offers privacy and plenty of room to work, rest and be entertained. It is available on the airline’s Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
5. Singapore Airlines: A380 Suites
AIRADVISOR SCORE: 82/100
Singapore Airlines’ A380 Suites provide passengers with a separate reclining leather chair and full-flat bed inside an enclosed private space.

Passengers travelling together can book selected adjoining suites, where the dividing partition opens to create a shared sleeping area with a double bed.
This arrangement allows couples to travel together without sacrificing the privacy and personal space of an individual suite.
6. Lufthansa: Allegris First Class Suite Plus
AIRADVISOR SCORE: 80/100
Lufthansa’s Allegris First Class Suite Plus accommodates two passengers in a single enclosed suite.
Its two extra-wide seats can be adjusted independently or converted into a double bed, letting passengers choose between travelling together and keeping their individual comfort settings.

The suite is part of Lufthansa’s Allegris cabin programme, which is available on select Airbus A350-900, Boeing 747-8 and Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
7. Japan Airlines: A350-1000 First Class
AIRADVISOR SCORE: 78/100
Japan Airlines has fitted just six First Class suites aboard its Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, arranged in a spacious 1-1-1 configuration.

Each suite includes a personal wardrobe, minibar and 43-inch entertainment screen. The seat converts into a bed measuring up to 123 centimetres wide and 203 centimetres long.
The unusually wide sleeping area is one of the cabin’s distinguishing features, giving passengers considerably more room than a conventional lie-flat airline seat.
8. Emirates: A380 Onboard Lounge
AIRADVISOR SCORE: 76/100
Emirates’ A380 Onboard Lounge gives First and Business Class passengers somewhere to socialise away from their seats.

Located at the rear of the upper deck, the lounge includes a staffed bar, seating areas and a selection of premium drinks and refreshments.
It harkens back to the high life of Boeing 747 upper-deck lounges. It is one of the few remaining onboard social spaces on scheduled commercial flights, allowing passengers to stand, stretch and meet fellow travellers during a long journey.
9. Qatar Airways: Al Safwa First Lounge
AIRADVISOR SCORE: 72/100
Qatar Airways’ Al Safwa First Lounge at Doha’s Hamad International Airport offers an extensive collection of premium facilities, including a spa with nine treatment rooms and a thermal jacuzzi.
The lounge also provides private areas where passengers can rest before their flights.

Like Air France’s private airport suites, Al Safwa shows how airlines are competing to offer exclusive ground experiences alongside increasingly sophisticated aircraft cabins.

Not included in AirAdvisor’s rankings, but well worth mentioning, Qatar Airways offers its unique QSuite on select Airbus A350-900, A350-1000, Boeing 777-200LR and Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. The Qsuite can accommodate up to four passengers flying together in a private social space.
10. Virgin Atlantic: Retreat Suite
AIRADVISOR SCORE: 68/100
Virgin Atlantic’s Retreat Suite is an unusually spacious business class product aboard its Airbus A330neo aircraft.
Located at the front of the Upper Class cabin, the two Retreat Suites have large ottomans that can serve as additional seats.

The arrangement allows up to four people to gather in one suite to dine, work or socialise, offering a shared experience more commonly associated with First Class.
How AirAdvisor ranked the airline luxuries
AirAdvisor assessed each experience against five weighted criteria: extravagance (35%), rarity (25%), privacy and exclusivity (20%), access scarcity (10%) and amenities beyond the seat (10%).
The research covered airline products and facilities marketed to paying passengers, based on information gathered in September 2026. The company excluded private jets, discontinued products and concepts not yet available to passengers, and limited the ranking to two experiences per airline.
The results measure individual luxury features rather than an overall assessment of airline service or cabin quality.
Travellers should also check which aircraft and cabin configuration will operate their flight before booking. Even within the same airline, premium products can vary by route and aircraft.
“For travellers, the cabin name alone does not tell you what you are actually buying,” Radchenko said. “The same airline can offer a dramatically different premium experience depending on the aircraft and route.”
