LATAM introduces fully lie-flat suites on A321XLR
April 17, 2026
LATAM Airlines Group will introduce fully lie-flat Premium Business suites on its future Airbus A321XLR fleet, becoming the first airline in South America to install suites on a single-aisle aircraft.
The airline unveiled its new A321XLR cabin with new ‘Premium Business suites’ during the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg this week. The aircraft will allow LATAM to serve long-haul routes with a more premium widebody product while benefiting from the efficiency of the long-range narrowbody aircraft.
LATAM A321XLR has a two-class layout with lie-flat suites
According to the airline’s announcement, the A321XLR will be configured for over 170 passengers and include a new-generation Premium Business cabin. It will hold 12 fully lie-flat Thompson Aero Seating VantageSOLO suites with privacy doors, arranged in a 1-1 layout.

LATAM worked with London-based design firm PriestmanGoode to customise the suites and develop the full cabins for the new aircraft. “The design concept seeks to reflect the spirit of South America, with a contemporary aesthetic inspired by the region’s landscapes, materials and contrasts,” the airline stated in its announcement.

Behind the premium cabin, the A321XLR will feature a redesigned economy class, with the RECARO R3 seat in a 3-3 configuration.
Narrowbody aircraft, long-haul experience
LATAM says the A321XLR will raise the standard of travel on a narrowbody, with the new suites and seats complemented by technology upgrades, including:
- Seatback entertainment screens
- Bluetooth connectivity
- Enhanced onboard WiFi
The A321XLR will be the airline’s first single-aisle aircraft to offer seatback screens to all passengers.
“The Airbus A321XLR allows us to take our value proposition to the next level and elevate the travel experience for our passengers,” said Paulo Miranda, Chief Customer Officer at LATAM Airlines Group.
“We are introducing a Premium Business cabin on single-aisle aircraft, with long-haul standards of comfort, connectivity and privacy, and a design inspired by South America. This allows us to offer more travel options, strengthen our network, and deliver a more consistent experience for our passengers.”
Expanding long-haul opportunities from South America
The A321XLR’s extended range—up to roughly 4,700 nautical miles—will allow LATAM to operate new point-to-point routes between South America and North America, introduce potential services between Brazil and Europe, and provide more efficient frequencies on existing long-haul routes.

The airline has an order for over 10 Airbus A321XLRs with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2027.
The new narrowbody long-haul aircraft will play a key role in LATAM’s network strategy and premium push as the airline positions itself as the largest operator in South America, with a fleet projected to exceed 410 aircraft by the end of this year.
A strategic shift toward premium narrowbodies
LATAM’s decision to introduce a premium cabin on the A321XLR comes as other airlines are increasingly using long-range narrowbodies to maximise premium revenue while reducing operating costs.
JetBlue, which was one of the first carriers to bring a true premium long-haul experience to its narrowbody planes, also features Thompson’s Vantage SOLO suites in its Mint business class on its Airbus A321neo LRs.
Iberia has also selected the Vantage SOLO for its new Airbus A321XLR aircraft, which serves routes between Madrid and secondary airports in Brazil.
Saudia has also previously announced that it is installing the Vantage SOLO in business class on its Airbus A321XLRs.

Other long-haul narrowbody operators, including American Airlines, Air Canada and Qantas, have announced plans to offer lie-flat business-class suites on their A321XLRs.
Like these carriers, LATAM is effectively bringing a widebody-style business class experience to smaller markets, where demand does not justify larger aircraft. Still, the flight’s duration encourages passengers to book a premium cabin.
LATAM’s decision to offer a more refined passenger experience on the A321XLR marks a significant step change that its competitors in South America and abroad will watch closely.
