Authorities are investigating an incident at New York’s LaGuardia Airport where an Endeavor Air flight’s wingtip apparently made contact with the runway.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed to US media that Endeavor Air Flight 4814, carrying 76 passengers, was attempting to land on Sunday night when the pilot opted to abort the landing due to an unstable approach.

The crew performed a go-around but reports indicated that the wingtip may have touched the runway, with sparks reportedly seen.

According to audio recordings from air traffic control reported by CBS, a controller informed the flight crew that sparks had been observed.

The aircraft landed without further incident and taxied to its gate. No injuries were reported.

Endeavor Air, a regional carrier operated by Delta Air Lines, has faced scrutiny in recent weeks following a separate crash in February involving one of its planes at Toronto Pearson International Airport.

The FAA is conducting an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident at LaGuardia.

Delta said in a statement: “The Endeavor Air flight crew followed established procedures to safely enact a go-around at New York-LaGuardia. The aircraft landed safely and proceeded to its arrival gate. We apologise to our customers for the experience.”
