Eve joins ANAC’s vertiport regulatory sandbox

February 5, 2025

Eve Air Mobility has announced its participation in Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) regulatory sandbox for vertiports, marking another step forward in the development of operational regulations for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
Eve, a subsidiary of Embraer, is collaborating with PRS Aeroportos—formed by Pax Aeroportos SA and UrbanV SpA—and VertiMob Infrastructure Ltda in the initiative.
The project will run for 24 months and will provide an environment to test and refine innovative solutions for vertiports.
Areas of focus for the sandbox include infrastructure capacity, fire-fighting systems, aircraft noise compliance, and security measures. Additionally, the consortium will evaluate landing and take-off layouts, approach and departure routes, as well as maintenance and support facilities.
Eve’s role in the project will be to contribute its expertise in eVTOL aircraft development, offering insights on performance requirements, operational best practices, and pre-flight procedures.
The company is also helping to shape the broader advanced air mobility (AAM) market by developing the necessary infrastructure and service offerings that will support the growth of the industry.
This announcement follows ANAC’s recent publication of the final airworthiness criteria for Eve’s eVTOL, an important milestone toward type certification. The approval paves the way for Eve to define compliance standards with ANAC and work towards certification with the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Eve has already conducted Concept of Operations (CONOPs) studies in global cities such as Rio de Janeiro, Chicago, and London, assessing the needs and challenges of integrating eVTOLs into urban transport networks.
The regulatory sandbox is expected to provide insights into the development of vertiport standards, which will play a role in supporting the future rollout of eVTOL services worldwide.
“From the beginning, Eve’s vision has always been broader than just the aircraft. We are deeply committed to shaping and integrating into the wider AAM industry”, said Johann Bordais, CEO of Eve.
“Our collaboration in Anac’s regulatory sandbox is a clear demonstration of this commitment.
“This partnership with the infrastructure operators allows us to address all aspects of the AAM industry, from vertiport infrastructure to eVTOL operations, in alignment with the standards and expectations of global regulatory agencies”, added the executive.
