The E190F E-jet freighter has received its second regulatory certification, with the EASA equivalent expected to follow later this year.

Embraer’s E190F E-Freighter has received full FAA certification, following the passenger-to-freighter conversion and US Cargo System’s cargo loading system’s certification by the US regulator last month.

Describing the FAA certification as “an important milestone” in the passenger-to-freighter conversion programme, “we are excited to enter this market, filling a gap that has evolved in the market to meet the growing demand globally for faster deliveries, not just to metro areas, but to all regions,” explained chief commercial officer of Embraer commercial aviation Martyn Holmes.

Launched in May 2022, the E190F programme will see converted E-Jets offer over 40% more volume capacity, three times the range of large cargo turboprops and up to 30% lower operating costs than larger narrowbodies, confirmed the Brazilian manufacturer. The inaugural E-Jet freighter made its first flight in April and its first public appearance in July’s Farnborough International Airshow.

At the time, president and CEO of Embraer commercial aviation Arjan Meijer stated: “This is a segment that has tremendous potential, and gives a new life to the earliest E-Jets that are just now moving into the typical replacement phase”.
