February 21, 2025

The Baltic Cargo Hub, the largest dedicated air cargo handling facility in the Baltic region, has been completed, airBaltic has announced.
The airline is preparing to begin full-scale operations later in the spring. The project involved UPB Nams managing construction, Ozola un Bula handling architectural design, and BLV Advisory Group.
The 6,895-square-metre hub is designed to meet the rising demand for cargo handling at Riga Airport, airBaltic said.
Equipped with advanced semi-automatic material handling systems, the facility promises more swift and seamless processing. It features temperature-controlled rooms for pharmaceuticals, as well as dedicated spaces for hazardous goods, live animals, and valuable shipments. Integrated Food and Veterinary Service facilities and a Customs checkpoint will further improve cargo operations.
Sustainability has been a key focus of the project. The construction process utilised Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology to enhance efficiency, and the facility meets BREEAM sustainability standards.
