Swedish regional airline Braathens has complemented the five-year renewal of its global maintenance agreement with aircraft manufacturer ATR with the addition of flight crew training support.

Braathens currently operates a fleet of 14 aircraft but will increase this to 17 by the end of 2025, with one of the three ATR 72-600 to be delivered new from the ATR final assembly line.

The agreement, which includes access to a pool of Line Replaceable Units (LRUs), repair and landing gears overhaul services is “not just about parts, logistics and training – it’s about a shared commitment to reliability, safety and sustainability in regional air transport,” said Jimmie Bergqivist, deputy CEO of Braathens. Beyond maintenance services, ATR has also been tasked with providing tailored training solutions for Braathens flight crews by connecting trainee pilots with operators. The cadets will enter a type rating course with the ATR Training Centre before joining Braathens as junior first officers. ATR Flight Instructors will also provide line training assistance in a bid to help Braathens fulfil its need for regional pilots.

“In further strengthening our partnership with ATR, we are reaffirming our confidence in their ability to deliver the consistent, high-quality support our wet-lease operations require,” said Bergqivist.

The collaboration builds on a long history between the two companies, which includes the first ever 100% SAF-powered test flight on a commercial aircraft in June 2022.

The continued collaboration, said Stefano Marazzani, ATR’s SVP Customer Support and Services, “is testament to the confidence our customers place in us”.

He concluded: “We are proud to support Braathens in providing essential connectivity for major airlines across Europe, complementing their capacity efficiently and sustainably.”
