BAE Systems has landed a $95 million contract with the US Navy to provide increased defences for its patrol and reconnaissance aircraft.
The deal means US P-8A Poseidon Multi-Mission Maritime Aircraft will be fitted with BAE’s advanced countermeasure pods which will offer from protection from missiles and other threats.
These defences, which also include early threat detection measures, can be easily and affordably upgraded to accommodate future technologies and increase the aircraft’s range.
BAE Systems director of advanced compact electronic warfare solutions Don Davidson said: “We’re working closely with the US Navy to deliver innovative solutions to protect this critical, high-value aircraft.
“We quickly prototyped a very capable system using proven technology to defend against air-to-air and surface-to-air guided threats.”
