AIX Connect and Air India Express complete merger
Air India Express and AIX Connect, formerly known as AirAsia India, have merged to form a single, unified airline.
Operating under the airline designator code of “IX”, the merger has resulted in both carriers consolidating their operations and streamlining services.
AIX Connect will cease to exist after 11 years operating commercial services, and its aircraft will be transferred to the Air India Express AOC.
The merger comes after months of talks between both airlines, with guidance and support from the Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
The newly unified airline aims to strengthen its operational capabilities, enhance efficiency, and deliver a seamless travel experience for passengers.
Air India Express is a subsidiary of Air India and a part of the Tata group, operating over 400 daily flights, connecting 32 domestic and 14 international airports, with a fleet of 88 aircraft, comprising 61 Boeing 737s and 27 Airbus A320s.
Separately, the merger of Vistara and Air India is due to take place in November.
