Czech aerospace manufacturer Aero Vodochody has received official authorisation to develop, manufacture, maintain and repair Hungarian state-registered aircraft, including the L-39NGs to be delivered to the Hungarian Air Force.

“Obtaining this certificate is a key step for us and a confirmation of our quality and credibility.” Said Petr Jinda, executive vice president and chief development officer at Aero. “We are ready to fully support the Hungarian Air Force in the certification process of the L-29NG.T1 version and in the development of further mutual cooperation”.

Successful completion of the audit formally recognises the competence of Aero’s design (DOA), production (POA) and repair (MOA) organisations, added the company.

Aero will deliver a total of 12 L-39NG jet trainers to the Hungarian Defence Forces command, including eight as trainers (replacing the Zlin Z 143 LSi and Z 242 L Zeus trainers). An additional four aircraft will be configured for reconnaissance missions.

In May 2024, Aero signed an agreement with Swedish manufacturer Saab to explore options to explore options of adapting the L-39NG trainer to meet the Hungarian Air Force’s specific training requirements. These modifications will better align it with Hungary’s Saab Gripen C/D fighter jets.
