On 26 May 2025 AGN’s Charlotte Bailey reported that Vertical Aerospace had progressed to Stage 3 of flight testing – flying its VX4 eVTOL in entirely wing-borne flight and performing the first conventional take-off and landing.

On 27 May, the company released its own video of the historic flight, and announced that: “Last Thursday [22 May], our piloted VX4 prototype conducted its first wingborne flight — taking to the skies like a conventional aircraft, soaring over the UK countryside under real-world conditions. Quiet. Efficient. Electric. This is what the future of flight looks like.”

The Royal Aeronautical Society joined the celebratory mood, tweeting that: “Now confirmed – Vertical Aerospace announces it carried out first piloted CTOL flight of its VX-4 eVTOL in European open airspace last Friday (SiC) from Cotswold Airport. Wing-borne flight paves way for planned full transition by first half of this year.”
