ST Engineering’s Commercial Aerospace division has secured a five-year maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) contract with Korean Air to provide support of its LEAP-1B engine maintenance, which power the airline’s Boeing MAX fleet.

The agreement will see ST Engineering provide quick-turn services including high pressure turbine (HPT) maintenance in addition to Performance Restoration Shop Visit (PRSV) services. The maintenance will be carried out at the company’s MRO facility in Singapore, which was approved for LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B testing capabilities in 2024. The facility is currently expanding its capabilities to include LEAP PRSV, addressing the growing demand from airlines for efficient, reliable LEAP engine maintenance services.

The agreement underscores ST Engineering’s status as the first independent MRO provider in Asia to be designated a Premier MRO provider within CFM International’s LEAP open MRO ecosystem.

Tay Eng Guan, head of engine services at ST Engineering, highlighted the importance of the agreement, saying it underpins Korean Air’s confidence in the engineering firm and its ability to “deliver high-quality engine services” while supporting the airline’s “long-term growth plans.”

He added: “As a premier MRO provider designated by CFM for the LEAP engines, we are well-positioned to enable airlines to deliver reliable operations.”
