ITA Airways and Icelandair have unveiled a new codeshare agreement, linking their networks to offer more seamless travel between Italy and Iceland.

The partnership, announced during a signing ceremony at ITA Airways’ headquarters in Rome Fiumicino, promises to expand connectivity for passengers of both airlines.

Under the agreement, passengers will be able to book connecting flights across the two airlines’ networks with a single ticket, simplifying travel logistics and allowing for through-checked luggage to their final destination. The partnership officially begins on January 20, 2025, when the codeshare flights become operational.

The agreement enhances travel options between Rome and Reykjavík, with Icelandair customers gaining access to ITA Airways’ extensive domestic network. Italian destinations such as Catania, Palermo, Naples, Bologna, Florence, Bari, Genoa, Trieste, Lamezia Terme, Venice, and Turin will now be more accessible for Icelandair passengers.

Conversely, ITA Airways passengers can connect to Icelandair’s network, offering convenient links to Reykjavík and other Icelandair destinations. The airlines also plan to expand the codeshare agreement to include additional European gateways, further broadening travel options for their customers.

As part of its commitment to the partnership, Icelandair has announced increased winter services to Rome, adding four weekly flights to its schedule. This complements its summer operations, which already include daily flights to Milan and Rome, ensuring year-round connectivity between the two nations.

Andrea Benassi, general manager ITA Airways, said: “We are pleased to sign this codeshare partnership with Icelandair. This agreement further enhances ITA Airways’ commercial strategy of growth and opens a privileged access route to all passengers who will benefit from the connectivity via Rome Fiumicino and Reykjavik.

“This agreement marks the Company’s 37th codeshare partnership, an excellent result we have achieved in just over three years”.

Bogi Nils Bogason, CEO Icelandair, said: “We are very pleased to welcome ITA Airways into our esteemed group of airline partners. The codeshare agreement with ITA Airways will offer our customers very convenient connections between the two airlines’ networks.

“ITA Airways has an extensive route network and offers excellent customer experience. We look forward to welcoming ITA Airways passengers on board and extending our comprehensive network throughout Italy and beyond”.
