28 Airbus helicopters for Global Medical Response

28 firm orders – with options for an additional 23 units over the next three years – further reinforces Global Medical Response’s position as one of the largest operators of Airbus helicopters in North America.

Global medical response

Colorado-headquartered Global Medical Response (GMR) has placed an order for 28 helicopters to expand its medical fleet, taking the company’s total number of Airbus aircraft to nearly 200. The new order includes six H125s, five H130s, 14 H135s and three H145s; also making GMR among one of the first in North America to operate the IFR-capable H125.

“We are proud to continue supporting GMR as their teams work to deliver critical care to communities across the country, and are pleased they have once again trusted Airbus helicopters to play a key role in their missions,” commented Bart Reijnen, head of the North America region for Airbus Helicopters.

GMR currently operates 387 air base locations under a variety of brands, including Air Evac Lifeteam, REACH Air Medical Services, Med-Trans Corporation, AirMed International and Guardian Flight. The company has added more than 30 Airbus helicopters to its fleet since 2021.

Airbus explains that the single-engine H125 and H130 “offer the best visibility in their class, as well as modular, open-space cabins ideally suited to HEMS missions”. As the best performing single-engine helicopter, the H125 is also “particularly adapted to demanding hot and high environments”. An IFR capability (developed in partnership with Genesys Aerosystems), first announced in 2023, has recently been available from Airbus’ final assembly line in Mississippi and will expand the ability of H125 operators to perform missions in adverse weather conditions not possible under visual flight rules.
