Samarkand International Airport expands route network

Fast-growing Samarkand International Airport in Uzbekistan has announced the expansion of its international route network with new services to Baku, Azerbaijan, and Krasnoyarsk, Russia.

Fast-growing Samarkand International Airport in Uzbekistan has announced the expansion of its international route network with new services to Baku, Azerbaijan, and Krasnoyarsk, Russia.

Azerbaijan Airlines will introduce twice-weekly flights from Samarkand to Baku starting 1 April. The flights will operate on Wednesdays and Sundays, departing Samarkand at 2:55 am.

Additionally, Ural Airlines is set to launch a direct service between Samarkand and Krasnoyarsk in Eastern Siberia. This route will commence on 1 April with a weekly flight on Tuesdays.

Departures from Krasnoyarsk are scheduled for 11:40 am, arriving in Samarkand at 1:40 pm local time. The return service will leave Samarkand at 3:00 pm, landing in Krasnoyarsk at 8:35 pm local time.

Samarkand International Airport continues its impressive growth, recently being recognised as the fastest-growing airport in Europe and Central Asia by Airports Council International (ACI).

With 1.38 million passengers passing through its state-of-the-art terminal in 2024—a 36.6% increase from the previous year—Samarkand’s growth rate outpaced all other airports in the region.

Ulugbek Shamsikulov, CEO of Air Marakanda, the airport management company for Samarkand airport, said: “After record breaking growth and passenger figures in 2024, we will begin the summer season with important new services to Baku and Krasnoyarsk.

“These flight connections will strengthen the cultural, tourist and business ties between Uzbekistan and these two important countries, while providing passengers with convenient and affordable air transport links.”
