An official ceremony was held in Riyadh, marking that the airline had met all regulatory requirements and safety standards. The airline’s ‘tech spare’ and certification work horse, ‘Jamila’ (Boeing 787-9, HZ-RXX, leased from Oman Air) served as a backdrop.

“We are officially licensed and ready for takeoff,” Riyadh Air said, pointing out that the move paved the way for the airline’s operations to start later this year.
Riyadh Air ordered 72 new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners in March 2023 (confirmed orders for 39 aircraft, plus an option to acquire 33 more), and 60 next-generation Airbus A321 aircraft. The company is in negotiations for further widebody aircraft, aiming to take the fleet to more than 200 aircraft. It has been reported that Riyadh Air is evaluating both the Boeing 777X and the Airbus A350-1000.
