Qantas christmas livery

Australian carrier, Qantas, is celebrating one of its busiest seasons on record decorating three aircraft with festive decals featuring Father Christmas and gifts.

The special livery, which is being feature on a Boeing 737-800, QantasLink DHC-8-400 and Qantas Freight Airbus A321 will help provide festive cheer for customers travelling over the busy holiday season.

“Our teams have been working hard over several months to prepare our operations to be ready to help millions of customers to see their family and friends throughout the holiday season,” said Catriona Larrit, Qantas Group chief customer and digital officer.

The airline has also rolled out a number of customer experience enhancements including seasonal lounge and inflight menus designed by the airline’s creative director of food and beverages, Neil Perry, as well as a refreshed beer and cocktail offering across its network.

Festive freighter

Qantas’s freighter is expected to deliver more than 50,000 tonnes of international and domestic freight over the holidays, with the airline’s freight volumes expected to be up 5 % compared to the same period last year as the boom in e-commerce continues.

“While Santa and his elves have been preparing to fly gifts for kids around the world, Qantas Freight has been busy getting our fleet of freight sleighs ready for the Christmas peak,” added Igor Kwiatkowski, executive manager, Qantas Freight.

Noting that the airline’s freighter fleet is expecting to have flown 550 additional hours across the airline’s domestic network through November and December, he added that additional days of operation across the fleet will add 3,000 tonnes of domestic capacity.

“We’ve increased flying hours and we’ll have more support, extra capacity and our very own ‘Santa Freight’ aircraft to deliver more than 50 million kilos of freight this Christmas,”  Kwiatkowski said.

On the busiest days leading up to Christmas, Qantas carried around 1 million kg of cargo per day, which is around 70% more than its typical daily uplift.
