Aarhus Airport is to be acquired by Fairchild Denmark

Henrik Danielsen, CEO of Fairchild Denmark has announced that the Danish holding company will acquire Aarhus Airport as part of a wider investment in a number of other operating companies in Denmark.

The acquisition of the Danish airport (for a currently undisclosed sum) will include a substantial investment in developing the airport infrastructure to support the growth of air freight and logistics. These business divisions will be established as independent companies under Fairchild Denmark.

The airport has struggled financially and in 2019 local municipalities injected 200 million kroner with the condition of securing additional private investment. Lengthy negotiations with several potential investors have taken place in recent years, however three weeks ago Aarhus confirmed dealings with an unidentified investor were nearing completion. That investor has now been confirmed as Fairchild Denmark. The financing behind the US owned Danish firm includes Nordic Infrastructure financing, pension funds and private investment from local Aarhus and Jutland-based businesses.

According to a statement from Aarhus Airport: “Fairchild Denmark is committed to fostering new businesses in the area that delivers permanent jobs and significant economic growth in the local and regional communities over the next several years.”

Lars Dige Knudsen, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aarhus Airport added, “the collaboration holds great potential and will significantly strengthen the development of the airport – to the benefit of both citizens, owner municipalities and other stakeholders.”
