El Al introduces a modified livery

On 11 March, El Al revealed that three of its Boeing 737s had undergone a repainting process alongside routine maintenance at Ostrava. El Al said that the aircraft had received a refreshed and updated look, and that the airline had “enhanced the Israeli flag colours on the tail, further emphasizing the national pride we proudly showcase around the world.”

The new scheme is similar to the new livery applied to at least one Boeing 787-9 (4X-EDN) last year, with much larger EL AL titles (in English and Hebrew) on the forward fuselage, no silver-grey accents, and with the lower blue stripe on the tailfin extending down over the lower part of the fin and the entire rear fuselage. The 787-9 used a darker blue than is standard on El Al aircraft, whereas the newly repainted 737-8 uses a lighter, brighter and more turquoise shade.

El Al explained that its aircraft undergo a repainting process every few years, in accordance with the strict regulations of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, as part of the airline’s ongoing fleet maintenance programme. The aircraft’s exterior coating is not just about aesthetics—it provides essential protection against corrosion, weather conditions, and natural wear, helping to maintain the aircraft’s structure and performance.

“So the next time you see one of our aircraft in its new livery, know that it’s more than just a fresh coat of paint—it’s a reflection of our commitment to the highest standards of flight safety and the Israeli spirit we represent across the globe,” the airline noted. The new colour scheme is understood to form part of a wider and more comprehensive rebranding process.

The first aircraft to receive the new livery was a Boeing B737-800 (4X-EKI c/n 28587), which arrived back at Tel Aviv on 10 March 2025.
