Edinburgh Airport launches £5.8m project to redesign check-in hall
Edinburgh Airport has embarked on a £5.8 million project to revamp its check-in hall, with the aim of creating more space and streamlining passenger experience with new self-service technology.
Zones A and D, currently used by Ryanair and Jet2 respectively, will undergo major redesigns, featuring digital wayfinding, video walls, and modern self-service check-in machines.
The project, which began on 1 October, will increase space in Zone A by 70% and reconfigure the layout of check-in desks to improve passenger flow.
Part of the VINCI Airports network, Edinburgh Airport is drawing on expertise from over 70 airports worldwide.
Work will continue throughout the winter and is expected to be completed by spring 2025, in time for the summer travel season.
Temporary wayfinding systems will be in place while renovations are underway to minimise disruption for travellers.
Adam Wilson, chief operating officer at Edinburgh Airport said: “Raising the standards for our passengers is something we’re always striving to do, and this significant investment in our check-in hall will deliver a major improvement.
“As an airport it’s important that we listen to our passengers and deliver the changes they want to see – and creating more space in check-in is something that we have seen come up when asking for feedback.
“There will be some temporary changes throughout the hall while work is being carried out so we’d like to thank passengers in advance for their patience as we deliver these important improvements.”
