Edinburgh Airport has made history by becoming the first Scottish airport to handle 15 million passengers in a single year.

The record, achieved earlier this month, highlights Edinburgh’s position as Scotland’s busiest airport and a key hub for international and domestic travel.

It also underscores the airport’s strong recovery and growth in passenger numbers and connectivity since the pandemic.

A standout year for the airport saw several milestones, including the return of Emirates with daily flights to Dubai and JetBlue’s debut in the Scottish market, offering summer services to New York. WestJet expanded its offerings with new routes to Toronto and Halifax alongside its existing Calgary service.

Major events also contributed to the surge, with Scotland’s Euro 2024 matches driving increased travel to Germany and Taylor Swift’s sold-out concerts at Murrayfield attracting fans from across the globe.

Looking ahead, 2025 promises further growth with the return of American Airlines’ Philadelphia route, JetBlue’s new Boston service, and Austrian Airlines’ seasonal flights to Vienna.

Edinburgh Airport is also investing in passenger facilities, expanding its check-in hall and introducing fresh food and drink options, ensuring its infrastructure keeps pace with growing demand.

Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport said: “It’s great to hit this major passenger milestone that shows the clear interest that people have in tourism and travel, both to and from Scotland.

“Whether it was supporting Scotland at the Euros, being a Swiftie and singing your heart out at Murrayfield or travelling to a bucket list destination for that special holiday, we’ve been able to facilitate more than 15 million journeys this year at Scotland’s busiest airport.

“That’s an achievement that reflects the incredible spirit of our team, the excitement of our passengers to see the world, and the growing connections we’re proud to foster across Scotland and beyond. We’re already planning for 2025 and what it will bring, and we look forward to seeing even more people next year.”
