CAE showcases VR pilot training solution
CAE has introduced a new immersive training app for Apple Vision Pro, marking a first in pilot training technology.
Unveiled at NBAA-BACE in Las Vegas, the app uses spatial computing to recreate the flight deck experience with high precision, enabling pilots to practice critical flight interactions remotely – activities previously limited to training centres.
Integrated within CAE’s training ecosystem, the app aims to enhance pilot proficiency and speed up training time by allowing pilots to train anytime, from anywhere.
The app offers three modes: Exploration Mode, where pilots can select and explore each flight control; Guided Mode, which walks pilots through key aircraft procedures; and Flight Deck Interaction Mode, which allows pilots to rehearse actions naturally to build muscle memory. This includes specific actions like engaging the main battery switch, as pilots would on an actual aircraft.
Currently being tested for the Bombardier Global 7500, the app is set for broader release in Spring 2025.
“This Apple Vision Pro app developed by CAE will allow pilots to familiarise themselves with the flight deck, practice critical procedures, and develop muscle memory for key functions from anywhere,” said Emmanuel Levitte, CAE’s chief technology and product officer.
“It will allow pilots to engage with realistic flight deck environments to further ensure they are ready for their full-flight simulator sessions and become even better prepared for any situation.”
