Canary Islands-based airline Binter has announced a fleet upgrade, replacing four of its ATR 72-600 aircraft with brand-new models equipped with PW127XT engines.

The airline, which placed the order at the end of 2024, has also secured options for an additional five aircraft as part of its long-term modernisation strategy.

The move was revealed during ATR’s 2024 results press conference, where the aircraft manufacturer highlighted the first orders for replacing ATR -600 series planes with the newer, more efficient type.

Binter, which operates a fleet of 26 ATR 72-600s, plays a vital role in regional connectivity, carrying over 5 million passengers annually and running around 210 daily flights between the Canary Islands.

President of Binter, Rodolfo Núñez, commented: “Our investment in these brand new ATR 72-600 underscores our dedication to ensuring the utmost comfort and reliability for the communities we serve.

“With the remarkable efficiency of the PW127XT engines, uniquely optimised for ATR’s turboprops, we are embracing new standards in fuel consumption, CO2 emissions, and operating costs, setting a benchmark for responsible aviation practices.”
