Avelo flies high with launch of eighth base and seven new routes

April 4, 2025

Wilmington International Airport in North Carolina has become the eighth base for budget carrier, Avelo Airlines, which has also expanded operations with seven new routes across its network.
Having launched in 2021, Avelo Airlines has gone from strength to strength and currently serves 55 cities spanning the US, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Jamaica, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
Its new base in North Carolina is in line with the airline’s growth strategy to develop its network in popular markets. “Our investment in Wilmington and our additional routes exemplify our continued growth as we approach the 4th anniversary of Avelo’s inaugural flight,” said Avelo Airlines founder and CEO, Andrew Levy.
Three new routes will be added to the airline’s network from Wilmington, including: Boston/ Manchester in Massachusetts, Nashville in Tennessee and Rochester in New York.
In addition it has also added routes from Nashville International Airport to Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester Airport and Charlotte’s Concord-Padgett Regional Airport, as well as flights from Manchester-Boston Regional Airport to Myrtle Beach Airport and from Tweed-New Haven Airport to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport.
The airline will use its fleet of Boeing NG737 aircraft to operate these routes, as Levy added, “these routes enable Avelo to significantly expand the affordable, convenient and reliable air service our customers value.”
Since launching in April 2021, Avelo has flown more than 6.6 million passengers on over 53,000 flights and in 2024 was ranked number one for on-time performance and achieved the lowest flight cancellation rate in the US airline industry by Anuvu.
