First look: Inside British Airway’s new Airbus A380 and the world’s largest business class cabin
4 min read
British Airways has revealed the completely redesigned interiors of its Airbus A380s, including the world’s largest business-class cabin.
The refurbished British Airways A380 introduces 106 Club Suites, a new First suite and a significantly expanded premium economy cabin as the airline upgrades its flagship long-haul aircraft.
The overhaul represents a major shift towards premium seating aboard BA’s largest aircraft. It also brings the airline’s Club Suite, with its closing privacy door and direct aisle access, to the A380.
The programme redesigns every cabin, from new First suites at the front of the aircraft to wider economy seats, larger entertainment screens and Bluetooth connectivity at the back.
The UK flagship has reduced A380 flying to free aircraft for the extensive retrofit programme. AGN recently reported that the airline is cutting A380 flights by around 28% this winter, with aircraft rotating out of service for refurbishment.
The airline says more than 35,000 individual parts are installed during each A380 transformation.
British Airways chairman and CEO Sean Doyle called the refurbishment “a major milestone for British Airways and the future of our A380 fleet.”
“We’ve completely reimagined the customer experience, introducing new and updated seats in every cabin, all carefully considered to deliver greater comfort and an elevated customer experience,” Doyle said.
British Airways creates world’s largest business class cabin on the Airbus A380
The airline will install 106 Club Suites, which it says makes the British Airways Airbus A380 home to the world’s largest business-class cabin.
Club World will take over the entire upper deck, creating a dedicated business-class floor on the double-decker aircraft.
It is a substantial increase from the 97 Club World seats in BA’s current A380 configuration. The refurbishment finally brings Club Suite, which BA has introduced across its long-haul fleet, to the A380.

Each Club Suite has a closing privacy door, direct aisle access and converts into a fully flat bed.
BA has also updated the finishes, storage and charging options for the A380 installation. Leather headrests and herringbone stitching feature prominently. Passengers gain open storage beside the seat and multiple charging points.

BA is also redesigning the Club Kitchen, its self-service snack area, with new wall panels and wood-effect flooring.
With more than 100 suites occupying the entire upper deck, BA is using the A380’s enormous cabin area to increase its premium capacity.

The other headline addition is British Airways’ new First cabin, comprising just 12 private suites.
Each suite is surrounded by a 60-inch privacy wall and converts into a fully flat 6 ft 7 in bed.

Passengers also get a personal wardrobe, minibar and an ottoman which allows another passenger to sit opposite them for dining.
For passengers travelling together, the divider between the centre suites can be opened to create a shared space.

The design takes inspiration from Concorde and incorporates curved surfaces, bespoke mood lighting and hand-stitched leather.
British Airways expands Airbus A380 premium economy cabin
World Traveller Plus gets another substantial expansion. The new premium economy cabin will have 84 seats, compared with 55 on BA’s existing A380 configuration.

Seats are arranged eight abreast in a 2-4-2 configuration with a 38-inch pitch. They feature greater recline, larger entertainment screens and privacy wings extending from the headrests.

BA has also added a cocktail table, in-arm storage and quilted seat covers using fabrics inspired by British tweed.
What is changing in economy class on British Airway’s A380?
World Traveller economy class passengers also get a new seat. BA says the redesigned seats are wider and more comfortable, with adjustable headrests and new cabin interiors.

Each passenger gets a 12-inch HD entertainment screen, Bluetooth connectivity and a USB-C charging port.

However, BA is trading overall A380 capacity for a much greater cabin footprint dedicated to higher-value premium seating, with fewer economy seats onboard.

The refurbished aircraft will carry 215 World Traveller seats, compared with 303 in BA’s existing A380 configuration.
That reduction makes room for the expanded premium cabins. Overall capacity falls from 469 to 417 passengers, while Club World grows to 106 seats and World Traveller Plus to 84.
When will British Airways’ refurbished A380 enter service?
British Airways says the first refurbished Airbus A380 will enter service in the coming months, although it has not yet announced its first passenger route.
The airline operates 12 A380s. The refurbishment programme is already reshaping its schedule as aircraft are taken out of service for interiors completion.
Once finished, the British Airways Airbus A380 retrofit programme will address gaps in BA’s long-haul product while giving the airline something unique even by A380 standards: an entire upper deck dedicated to business class flyers.
