For the first time in its 20-year history, Australian low-cost carrier, Jetstar, has unveiled a new uniform for its cabin crew, pilots and airport staff.

Worn by more than 6000 of the airline’s frontline team across its Australia, New Zealand and Asia Pacific network, the new uniform sets the tone of travel and signals a new era for the LCC. Inspired by watching the sunset from an aircraft window, the uniforms for crew and airport staff feature a palette of Jetstar’s iconic orange paired with a sea of blues with navy linen look blazers, a star motif on versatile shirt dress, tailored skirts, tapered trousers, polos and overcoats. The relaxed silhouettes and pop of colour add elements of play and excitement.

For pilots the new uniform features a sleek tailored suit in navy rather than black and features new epaulettes and the option of a neck scarf.

Two-year design process

Australian designer Genevieve Smart, of womenswear label Ginger & Smart, worked alongside 40 members of the Jetstar team for two years to complete the final designs.

“We listened to our people and together created a uniform that reflects a new era of low fares for Jetstar, our people and our customers,” said Jetstar Group CEO, Stephanie Tully.

“Our new look uniform adds to our investment in 14 new domestic and international routes this year, our first new A320neo which landed this week, new A321neo LR aircraft and updated cabins for our international widebody Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet.”

For Smart, the new design wasn’t so much about reflecting the aircraft interior but beyond it to new destinations.  “The creative vision was to infuse the collection with lightness and fluidity, capturing the essence of freedom, movement and endless possibilities – celebrating the joy of travel and the unity of the Jetstar crew,” she said.

Arrival of the first A320neo

Complementing the uniform unveiling, this week has also seen the arrival of Jetstar’s first A320neo, which touched down in Melbourne on Monday.

The quieter, more fuel-efficient aircraft is the first of its type to be registered in Australia. Mirroring the features in the airline’s new A321neo LRs and including 188 seats, extra-large overhead bins, in-seat USB power sockets, the A320 will help grow capacity and increase the number of low fare seats across the carrier’s’ network.
