Do228 NXT debuts at Dubai Airshow 2025
GA-ATS is using the Dubai Airshow to showcase the Do228 NXT’s multi-mission versatility to regional operators. The company believes the event offers a powerful platform to highlight how the new variant blends the proven Dornier design with modern technology, making it ideal for security, surveillance and transport roles across the region.

“The Dubai Airshow provides the perfect stage to introduce the Do228’s multi-mission capabilities to customers in the MENA region,” said Florian Rohe, Managing Director of GA-ATS. “Its adaptability, efficiency and reliability have already stood out in similar climates around the world.”
General Atomics modernises Do228 production line
Since taking over the Do228 programme in 2021, GA-ATS has revitalised production at Oberpfaffenhofen, expanded in-house manufacturing and strengthened its supplier network to ensure long-term availability.
Two aircraft are now in final assembly and are expected to be completed in spring 2026, with deliveries to follow soon after. The first airframe will serve as a demonstrator and test platform, helping showcase the aircraft’s enhanced mission systems and improved operational flexibility.
Do228 NXT: Designed for Middle East missions
GA-ATS is positioning the Do228 NXT as a perfect fit for the Middle East’s harsh conditions. The aircraft retains its short take-off and landing (STOL) performance while offering greater payload, endurance and flexibility.
Its rectangular cabin allows quick reconfiguration for passenger, cargo, medevac or surveillance operations, while optional wet wing tanks extend endurance beyond ten hours. These characteristics make it ideal for border patrol, maritime surveillance and environmental monitoring.

The NXT introduces several technical and comfort upgrades over its predecessors, including:
- A new electric air-conditioning system
- LED lighting and modern avionics
- Latest-generation Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS)
- Optional wet wing tanks for extended range
- Certified performance for extreme climates
This modular approach allows operators to rapidly tailor the aircraft to mission needs without major structural modification.
The Do228 NXT cockpit now features four large electronic flight displays, a digital autopilot, and an advanced navigation suite supporting maritime and search-and-rescue operations.

It is night-vision goggle compatible and enables real-time video streaming to cockpit displays, features that add clear value for regional security and coastal monitoring missions.
Do228 NXT bridges heritage and modern aviation needs
The NXT represents a significant evolution of the classic Dornier platform, merging proven structural integrity with modern manufacturing and support systems.
GA-ATS also offers comprehensive after-sales and life-cycle support, including pilot training, maintenance, engine overhaul and parts supply — a key advantage for existing Do228 operators seeking higher fleet reliability.

While the immediate focus is the Middle East and North Africa, GA-ATS expects global demand from regions such as South America, Central America and the Caribbean — areas that share similar terrain and infrastructure challenges.
By showcasing the Do228 NXT in Dubai, the company aims to secure new customers and establish itself as a leader in the modern utility turboprop segment.
