The new ITA Airways “Born To Be Sustainable” Airbus A350-900 with customised livery promoting sustainability has been delivered to the airline from a facility at Shannon Airport in Ireland.

The next-generation aircraft aids the airline’s fleet renewal programme and is part of a package that will lead ITA Airways to become – over the 2021-25 period – “Europe’s greenest air carrier”, the company said.

Sustainability goals

With the “Born To Be Sustainable” A350, ITA Airways tells the story of the five Sustainability Guidelines that underpin the Company’s ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) strategy.

The aircraft will operate between Rome and Los Angeles, New York and Buenos Aires, representing the airline’s goal of reducing CO2 emissions.

Weight loss

Compared to previous generations, the weight of the structure has decreased by 70 per cent through the widespread use of composite materials, titanium and aluminum alloys, and fuel consumption is 25 per cent lower.

ITA Airways will have four of the eight A350s ordered from Airbus already operational on intercontinental routes from mid-June.
