La Compagnie to launch all-business-class New York to Düsseldorf flights in 2027

All-business-class airline La Compagnie is launching non-stop flights from New York to Düsseldorf.

The French ‘boutique’ airline will deploy an Airbus A321LR featuring 76 lie-flat, business-class seats in a 2-2 layout on the new route.

Düsseldorf to Newark flights to commence in spring of 2027

Flights between Newark Liberty International Airport and Düsseldorf Airport are expected to start in spring 2027, with the service operating up to five times a week during the summer season.

The launch of the new all-business class route mirrors the strong demand for premium transatlantic travel that has been evident since the end of the Covid pandemic.

La Compagnie will become the only airline offering a non-stop connection between New York and Düsseldorf when the route launches.

The airline said the service is aimed at both business and leisure traffic between New York and North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany’s most populous state and a major economic region both for Germany and Europe.

More than 24,000 international companies are based in North Rhine-Westphalia, including around 1,700 US companies, while the US is the state’s largest non-European export market.

Düsseldorf is also a major international trade show destination and has a large concentration of companies in sectors including fashion, telecommunications, life sciences, professional services and advanced manufacturing.

Christian Vernet, president and CEO of La Compagnie, said Düsseldorf was a “natural” addition to the airline’s network.

“At the heart of one of Europe’s most dynamic economic regions, with strong international businesses and longstanding ties to the United States, North Rhine-Westphalia is well suited to our unique all-business-class model,” he said.

Business class service at the airport and on board

At the airport, La Compagnie passengers will have access to the DUS Sky Lounge in Pier C, while customers departing Newark will be able to use the airline’s dedicated Lounge&Co facility.

On board, the A321LR will be fitted with 76 business-class seats, with each converting into a fully flat bed. 

Passengers will also get access to unlimited high-speed Wi-Fi, onboard entertainment, meals and complimentary Champagne.

La Compagnie currently operates from Newark to Paris Orly, Nice Côte d’Azur and Milan Malpensa. 

It has also extended its New York-Nice service into the winter season for the first time.

The Düsseldorf expansion will coincide with the planned arrival of a third A321LR in 2027. A fourth aircraft, an A321XLR, is scheduled to join the fleet in 2028.

The airline says the newer aircraft will be quieter and up to 30% more fuel-efficient than its previous-generation fleet, while the additional range of the XLR will provide greater flexibility for future transatlantic routes.

Düsseldorf’s transatlantic network

La Compagnie’s return of a non-stop New York service therefore restores a flight connection that has been lacking from Düsseldorf airport’s network for several years.

The city’s transatlantic network was stronger before the Covid pandemic; Lufthansa served Newark from the German airport for more than a decade, with flights operating until 2018. 

The route was then transferred to Eurowings, which continued operating it until the service was suspended in 2020.

Düsseldorf also had a second New York connection through Air Berlin. The now-defunct German carrier operated between DUS and John F. Kennedy International Airport from 2008 until it collapsed in 2017.
